This Holi, Actors Simple Kaul and Kunal Karan Kapoor team up for the Mission!

This Holi was a special occasion for Organic Amrit. Our dear friends, Actors Simple Kaul and Kunal Kapoor currently starring in the Hit TV series Ziddi DiL Maane Na on Sony Liv, teamed up to help our mission of promoting Safe Sustainable Living!

Simple and Kunal furthermore encouraged her co-stars Kaveri Priyam, Shaleen Malhotra, and Diljot Chhabra to celebrate Holi with our sustainable colours.

They chose to celebrate Holi with lab tested "Non-Toxic Colours" made from recycled flowers by our partner brand Gulmeher, who are changing the lives of ragpickers and destitute women of Ghazipur slums in Delhi, by turning them into artisans who make these colours!

Traditional Holi colors used natural raw materials. The powdered colors had medicinal significance and were traditionally made of Neem, Kumkum, Haldi and Bilva etc.The conventional Holi Colors are actually industrial chemicals; black (lead oxide), green (copper sulfate and malachite green), silver (aluminum bromide), blue (Prussian blue, cobalt nitrate, indigo, and zinc salts), and red (mercury sulfate). They cause Eye Allergy, Puffiness and Temporary blindness, some of these chemicals are Carcinogenic and are highly toxic. Chemicals like Mercury Sulfate can cause Skin Cancer. They can cause skin allergies, irritation, redness, rashes, itching and bumps.

Conventional wet colours are water based colour which get easily dissolved in water consists of high alkaline base. They are made from toxic compounds mixed with engine oil. If you feel the sensation pain in the eye, due to a foreign particle or excessive redness and eye tearing after Holi celebration. Please consult a doctor immediately, as this could be due to the exposure to the toxic chemicals, that can cause severe damage, if not irrigated from the eye as quickly as possible, these particles gradually create more and more damage, destroying and disrupting the outer cells of the cornea. The researchers concluded that punctate keratopathy and epithelial defect specifically were directly related to patients exposure to the toxic chemicals ubiquitous in Holi colored-powder compounds.

Unlimited and uncontrolled use of such dyes and colors can lead to grave consequences in terms of human health and ecological balance. These colors are highly structured polymers and are very difficult to decompose biologically. They cannot even be removed by conventional wastewater treatment methods. The discharge of the toxic colors in the soil and water has a deleterious effect on the water resources, soil fertility, microorganisms living in these habitats and the ecosystem integrity on the whole.

Needless to say, that the Actors had a blast playing Holi with these pure and safe colours, while also helping us promote the importance of using Non-Toxic colors via their own Social Handles! We are thankful for their kind support to our mission of creating a safe present & a better future for all while helping make our one and only home- Earth... SAFE!
